Tech Belt Buzz

The Tech Belt Initiative isn't dead. I see the name mentioned in the news, here and there. The latest invocation:

If you live in the Northeast, or have an interest in high-tech entrepreneurship, you may have heard rumblings of a new Cleveland-Pittsburgh Technology Corridor.

The initiative, according to collaborators, “is an economic development strategy designed to reinvigorate the region by building on its unique civic, educational, healthcare and industrial institutions.”

The corridor would encompass Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh, which share common traits. Because all of these cities were built on a foundation of entrepreneurial spirit and innovation – and their success depends on their ability to generate new products, technologies and wealth – the idea makes a lot of sense.

  1. I wasn't aware that it was rumored to be "dead"? My impression was that it hadn't even "officially" begun yet (campaign wise). I think Reps Altmire and Ryan focus has simply been dominated by several national issues at present, namely the health care debate.

  2. Why Is the G-20 Being Held in Pittsburgh?

AP: When White House press secretary Robert Gibbs announced in May that the Obama Administration had chosen to hold the Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh, Pa., the press corps broke out laughing.

Pittsburgh is indeed a miserable place.......

  5. What's with all the sour grapes about Pittsburgh's success? Reads like that some of the people who left are mad to find out that the city did better without them.

  6. Not me...Moon township resident here, love the Stillers! Frankly, embarassed about what has become the City of Pittsburgh. Embarassed what the national media will say about our city at the G20. Not much to talk about locally (Pittsburgh success????), it's a shame our past identity speaks volumes about our present date situation.

  7. The only thing embarrassing is watching and reading all the media coverage gushing about how great Pittsburgh is. If anything, it is way over-the-top positive.

Pittsburgh is on the cusp of being a boomtown.

  8. Roll call: Burgettstown in the house. Um, yes, nice editorial but outside of football, Pittsburgh is a dead city, period end of story. Next.....

  9. Pittsburgh isn't a dead city. Far from it. And the global press continues to celebrate its success. Meanwhile, back in the Burgettstown Bunker ...

  10. This guy the working for the mayor's office?

CNN's translation of the Pitt. landscape: trainwreck that won't stop.

Thanks...I will continue to fight for Pittsburgh, but it's utter humiliation at this point. We're the butt of national jokes. It's sad but true, this area is going down the drain and is hopeless.......
